Kids Pool On Concrete

Those big blue pools - ok to have on concrete salbs or not?

Just managed to get myself a 10 ft pool in the hope that it will keep dd and friends occupied over the hols. I do have a lawn so can have it there if necessary, but the ideal place would be at the end of my garden, it gets a bit of shade at certain times, is out of the way, and wont ruin the lawn. But it is concrete slabs - yes or no?

I think they recommend a soft surface.

Yes, they do, but just wondering of that means a hard surface is completely out of the question

Put something under it or you will have lots of stubbed tootsies (or make them wear beach shoes in there) and it might tear.

B&Q do rubber matting I think.

Rubber matting sounds like a good idea. Just tried the b&q website but can't find it there though.

oh I give up with the blooming pool idea. Just Spent ages trying to fill it up, didn't realise how much of a slope my lawn is, definitely can't have it on the grass. Thik I've just wasted 50 quid!!

from what ive read hose pipe bans do not affect filling pools.

schnapps Wed 19-Jul-06 14:02:11

There have been lots of messages on this site from members saying that hose pipe bans don't apply to pools.

ours is on concrete slabs and it's fine - we made sure to sweep them well beforehand.
It's been full and in use for 2 months now, no problems at all.

just to add - I think this a hard base is much better than grass. Wet grass can get slippery and your water would get filthy really quickly (just think of the mud...).
We've had no problems with stubbed toes?! The children all go in barefoot.

woops, 'I think a hard base' etc. Sorry, should have previewed.

You can get ground sheets for pools from e-bay. You can also get solar covers for the pools so that the sun heats the water.

I have a patio garden and use my paddling pool out there. I spread out an old blanket underneath.

Thank you for all the replies. The pool is now up and running and dd and friends have spent hours playing in it already

I don't understand the hosepipe ban, so you can fill a 15ft pool but can't water your veggies. Just as well we never get a ban here .

sribble, buy a small pool, fill it, dangle your tootsies for a few mins then empty the pool - onto your veggies

BTW, our children love to jump into ours and I would be nervous aboutthem hurting themselves if ti were on to concrete (which I did consider!).

And before anyone jumps on me - I am sure sensible parents wouldn't let them - but I never claimed to be a sensible parent so leave me alone

Its Ok DH is hosing away happily to his hearts content, we have been at the beach all day,(nothing more joyious than watching DD doing cartwheels through the surf in her pink knickers).

Strangely he leaves watering until midnight, perhaps he thinks there is a ban, should I tell him there isn't ? .

SecurMummy Fri 21-Jul-06 00:17:06

why does he think the neighbours won't shop him if he disturbes their sleep instead of oing it in the day? [wondering emoticon]

no, I think it is much more fun to let people labour under their (amusing) misconception
